Note to self :

First Love is the triumph of Imagination over Intelligence ..
And the Second trial is the triumph of Hope over Experience ....

I am intrigued ... the present day aggressive attitudes of certain Islamic clerics ... and the peaceful nature of Islam as a religion. Every religion has a violent past ... that is prompted by the zeal of conversion in the thought: 'mine is the true path ... I must help those poor folks on the wrong path and if they do not want to be saved I must force them by all means'.
I can understand that in the ages when man did not have today's communication facilities to reach out to the 'poor folk'. So he used the sword. We can safely assume both the saver and the saved were not as erudite as we are today.
Then why this violece?
How does a an average, intelligent, person with love for humanity in general, educated, of polished and polite behaviour, well accepted and looked upto in society think of the Islamic people who are involved in these violent activities in present times? I shall be grateful for an indepth answer.
Your comment on my post has set me thinking ... you write so well.
The only Egyptian I ever knew in person was a chap working in a ship. Well, as expected, he was pleasant company for an evening chat in a bar. That gives you nothing at the end of the day.

Thank you ... you are kind ... I have had many Muslims at my places of work, I am lucky enough to have a few Muslim friends, I have lived in a Muslim home for two years ... but none of the females wear the hijab, the head dress or veil. Of course there are people wearing it, I have seen them, but the people with whom I was socialising did not. I do not know how they reconciled with their customs and conventions. Hence, my thought:
how does it feel to wear hijab? Does one feel restricted? Or safe from the glare of strange male eyes? Is it inconvenient? and so on.
My conflict started with this: In a book, written by a woman author: One woman says to another: 'It is nice to be desired.'
In another book written by a male author: The thoughts of a very pretty girl: 'God, why did you create me this beautiful, for everyone looking at me has lust in their eyes.'
I wish to have a broad view of this head dress wearing habit, from a person who wears it, and whose companions too wear it.
Thank you, benzaloy
